In July 2015 the Young Carer Advisory Group was formed to be the voice of young carers in Western Australia. The group aims to identify the issues and needs of Western Australian young carers and address these with events and community awareness raising activities.
There are no better people to advocate for young carers than young carers themselves, so the group consist of young carers who range in age from 16 to 25 and come from diverse cultures and caring situations. All are passionate about being young carer champions.
In January 2016 the Young Carer Advisory group will attend an overnight camp that specifically focusses on developing young carer appropriate programs and resources. If you have any ideas, please feel free to email [email protected] and we will pass these ideas on.
Generally, meetings are held every two months followed by a fun activity such as a movie or dinner, facilitated by the Young Carers WA Program Manager. By being involved, members will gain skills in leadership, event input and co-ordination, project management and grant writing.
