West Coast Eagles Football Clinic & Movie! (YC 8-17yrs) - 17th April 2012
What better way to kick off our April school holiday activities than with a West Coast Eagles football clinic, where we learned (or re-learned..) to handball, kick and mark like champions! We also had a special visit from Will Schofield who kindly stuck around for a chat and to sign some posters for our lucky young carers. After a quick drink of Powerade it was time for an exciting behind-the-scenes tour of the West Coast Eagles clubrooms, where we learned about the complex inner workings of a champion football club! After all that excitement, we headed to Ace Cinemas to chill out and watch 'Mirror Mirror'!
Photos (to prove our awesome football skills) coming soon!! (But if you really can't wait, check out our Facebook page - link above or search for Young People Who Care)
It's a Knock Out & Adventure World (YC 13-17yrs) - 18th April 2012
Our spirits certainly weren't dampened by some drizzly rain when we took on the awesome (and hilarious) team challenges of It's a Knock Out! Four teams battled it out in Chariot Races, Slingshots, Golf mixed with Bocce (sounds odd but very fun!) and a giant game of Tug of War, amongst other fantastic games. The games were finished off with each team diving head first (some literally!) into the inflatable obstacle course and out of this, came only one team winner! Lots of laughs, great team work and some new friendships were what we then took to Adventure World for some screamingly good fun!

Mini Olympics & Ice Skating (YC 8-12yrs) - 19th April 2012
Once again we braved the weather (which actually behaved itself!) and tried our hand at various Olympic sports - okay so not ALL of them were Olympic, but all were definitely lots of fun! Egg and spoon races, sack races, three legged races and soccer-baseball were just some of the awesome activities we tried! After lots of laughter, a few classic stacks (three legged races are hard!) and a well earned lunch, we headed over to Perth Ice Arena to try our skills at a winter Olympic sport - ice skating! There were plenty of falls but more giggles than tears - everyone was very brave on the ice!!
Keep checking back for photos - coming soon!
Overnight zoo sleepover (YC 8-12yrs) - 1st March 2012
We held another awesome Zoo Camp for young carers aged 8-12yrs at the beginning of March! We explored the Zoo after dark and bedded down for the night surrounded by Zoo animals, waking up to the roar of the Sumatran Tigers and experiencing the morning chorus of birds, gibbons and elephants! We made 'enrichment' items for the Leopards including yummy icy lollies (by yummy, we mean fishy) and filled bags with poo and lavendar (becasue apparently they love playing with it)! An awesome night of exploration, discovery & fun!!!

Artistic Journey (11 - 17 Yr olds) 5th January 2012
Our January school holiday activities kicked off with a creative, messy, artistic and very fun journalling day at the Carers Centre. Jacky, our journalling guru, showed us all how to create fantastic journals using just children's books, magazine pictures, glue and paint! So easy and so effective!

A relaxing day on the water with Charter One. Setting sail from Sardine Jetty in Fremantle, we headed to Carnac Island for a day of snorkelling, stand up paddel boarding, swimming and beach walks. We even got up close to some not so sleepy sea lions who were huge and amazing to see!

Wet & Wild Day Out (YC's 13-17YRS) - 10th January 2012
We had no idea what we would be in for with Croc Surfing! But it was SO MUCH FUN! We headed out to Mandurah where we met the team from Adventure Out who had a heap of blow up paddle boats and oars ready for us. We headed strraight into the waves and (attempted) to surf the waves 'rapids' style! It was like white water rafting, only in the ocean and the waves were much bigger! We then headed over the Just For fun Aqua Park for some more blow up water fun!

Horse Riding (YC's 8-12yrs) - 12th January 2012
We saddled up for a day or horse riding with 1300 Trail Rides who created an amazing experience for all of the young carers who came along! It was a little scary at first for some who hadn't been horse riding before, but the horses were lovely and gentle and everyone had so much fun not being lead around on a rope, but actually being let loose to go on a beautiful trail rider together! It was a stinking hot day, but there was opportuntities to get hosed down with the horses, so everyone was happy!

It's a Knock Out & Time Zone (YC's 11-17yrs) - 20th January 2012
Super HOT weather meant we had to substitue our morning 'It's a Knock Out' acticity with something that would cause a little less heat stroke! What to do... ahhh, a trip to the cool airconditioned cinema to watch 'Journey to Mysterious Island' in 3D - a perfect remedy! We then headed to Time Zone in Northbridge for an afternoon of gaming!

Cupcake Decorating & Mini Olympics (YC's 8-12yrs) - 24th January 2012
So much fun! We covered some delicious cupcakes with yummy icing and decorated them to create tasty creations! From pigs to pirates! They all looked too good to eat (but we did!). We then... oh no! MORE HOT WEATHER! Again, we had to think on our feet and postpone our 'Mini Olympics' becasue of the heat! We headed over the Time Zone again for a great indoor afternoon, followed by icy poles and water balloon fights in the park!

Silver Metal Clay Workshop (YC's 13-17yrs) - 25th January 2012
Such an amazing day! Who would have thought we could turn a boring looking lump of silver clay, into REAL silver jewellery! We designed our pieces, shaped, moulded, added texture to them, before cooking them in a special machine! At the end we had some awesome pieces!

Rottnest Island Weekend Getaway (13 - 17 yr olds)
An excited group of young carers met at the Carers Centre on Friday 7th October, 2011, ready to embark on a three day, two night island adventure! For many, it was their first time to Rottnest and everyone was looking forward to soaking up some sun, swimming in the beautiful warm water and making heaps of new friends! We all had a fantastic time - thanks to our three wonderful camp volunteers (Matt, Jasmine and Clinton) for being completely awesome and of course to all the campers for being such a great bunch to spend the weekend with!
